Speak to the TeamFrequently asked questions
How many GLS pickup locations are there?
GLS offers 140,000+ pickup locations across Europe, including 10,000 in Germany, covering more than 40 countries.
What types of pickup locations does GLS offer?
Paketshops are staffed locations inside convenience stores, newsagents, small supermarkets, fuel stations and independent businesses – many open 7 days a week, with CCTV, disabled access and parking. Paketstations are automated parcel lockers, accessible 24/7 with no human interaction required.
How do customers know their order is ready?
GLS keeps customers updated at every step: a confirmation email with a tracking link when the parcel is handed to GLS, an out-for-delivery email on the day (with real-time tracking where available), and a delivered email once it arrives at the Paketshop or Paketstation – including the PIN or QR code for Paketstation collections. If the parcel is still waiting, GLS sends a reminder after 24 hours for Paketstations, or on day two for Paketshops.
How long do customers have to collect their order?
8 calendar days at a Paketshop, or 4 calendar days at a Paketstation.
Do customers need ID to collect?
At Paketshops, yes – customers present a valid ID card or passport, or someone can collect on their behalf with a signed power of attorney and their own ID. At Paketstations, no ID is needed: customers open the compartment with the 6-digit PIN or QR code sent by email.
What happens if customers don’t collect their parcel?
Once the collection window expires, the parcel is automatically returned to the sender via GLS’s standard returns process.
